Essential high-vis workwear, and how you can win some…

Roadsides are dangerous places as anyone who has broken down before will tell you, never mind if you have to spend several hours a day working on a busy roadside like thousands of people do every day. I’m here from leading workwear company Brookes UK, to explain why high vis workwear is so important, and also offer you the chance to win some completely free.

High Visibility Workwear is essential, but many people don’t use it to its full advantage, nor do they enjoy wearing it.

Many workers equipped with a high visibility vest or jacket will ditch it when the boss is out of sight, as they risk their safety to look slightly ‘cooler’ or they simply dismiss wearing high visibility clothing as not working in the first place… they couldn’t be more wrong.

When tested against regular clothing by a roadside, the high visibility clothing won out by a considerable distance. In fact, those in the high visibility safety clothing were seen at 700ft away, as opposed to the 100ft for the person in plain clothes.

Imagine you’re working late by the roadside, in the dark. A truck travelling at just 40mph wouldn’t see you until it were 100ft away, which could leave you for dead.

With a high visibility item of clothing on, you could have been seen 700ft away, and the truck would have had ample stopping distance.

These distances can really be the difference between life and death, and even just one garment can be the difference. It’s with reason that it’s the law to have to wear high visibility clothing in this sort of workplace.

We at Brookes UK Ltd are convinced that levels of safety for those working at the roadside need to increase, which is why we’re offering Veritas Consulting a great competition to win some top notch high visibility workwear.

We’re offering a pair of our best selling Yellow High Vis Overtrousers to one lucky winner of our great competition.

All you have to do is email [email protected] with the subject line “Veritas Competition” and we’ll draw a lucky winner at random.

Be safe, be seen.

Closing Date: August 1st 2011.

In a lot of Europe it is law that you must carry Hi Vis vests for all passengers in case of breakdown. I’d like to see that over here but I could imagine people complaining about ‘health and safety gone mad’ or other such rubbish.
